My Testimoniy - Johanna PDF Print E-mail
I am the eldest daughter of a family of nine children.  We went to a Christian school, attended Sunday School and church. In 1957 we migrated from Holland to Australia, on a migrant ship, where I met my future husband.  We were married in 1960.
We attended a traditional church but they really didn’t have any Bible studies.  As a friend and I wanted to know more about God’s Word, we decided to join a KYB (Know Your Bible) study group.  The ladies there were from different churches.  As time went by, we came to understand that the Bible tells us to repent and to be baptized by immersion for the remission of our sins.  That was a real eye opener for my friend and for me.  I shared that with my husband but he thought that it was not necessary.
From time to time, I would share Scriptures with my husband about baptism.  A year went by, and during that time, the Lord showed him that he too needed to be baptized.  My friend then left the traditional church and went to a Trinitarian Pentecostal Church.
But the Lord had something much better in mind for us, as He led me to meet another friend who showed me from the Scriptures that we must be baptized in the Name of the Lord. In May 1994, our daughter, son-in-law and I were baptized.  A year later, praise the Lord, my husband was also baptized.  We all received the Holy Ghost at different times.
We are so grateful for the truth of God’s Word.  In the old church they used to say at the end of a sermon, “In truth and righteousness”, and I used to think, “What is truth?  What is truth?” The Lord can see the question marks in our hearts and has given us His answer in full measure.  I am happy and relieved that there is no more confusion.  Because I didn’t know Who God was,  I always had two Gods in my head.  What a wonderful Saviour we serve to be set free and to walk confidently to our promise.
