My Testimony – Ian de Wal PDF Print E-mail
I have always gone to a church. Ever since I was a kid, my parents had us all go to church. But it wasn't until I was 26 years old that we were challenged in what we believed.

We had our oldest son "sprinkled" in baptism by the minister of our old church. Two months later we moved to a town called Carcoar, which is a little village outside of Blayney near Orange. The wife of my boss (who we later found out had attended Faith Chapel), challenged my wife Linda, to show her, in the Bible, where it says  that infants need to be baptised. So after about two months of research, we realised that it was no where to be found in God's Word. We also looked in all the information we could get our hands on from the old church.
About two years later we moved back to Wollongong for the birth of our first daughter. After she was born, about 6-8 weeks, we were approached by the church elders and informed that we needed to get her baptised (sprinkled). Now this idea did not sit all to well with us because of what we had learned, so we did not do it. In the end, after many discussions with the elders and with the minister, we agreed to disagree about our views on baptism. We were then asked to leave so that we would not "infect" others with our point of view.  So the search for a church went on.

I believe that God has had His hand in all that has happened to us since 1987 (the year we were married). He has led us to a church that, not only teaches the truth of God's word, but they also live it with the help of Jesus.  I have been baptised in the name of Jesus, filled with His Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. Yes we still have troubles in this walk, but we now have a church family who share the same "troubles".

I continually praise the Lord for His goodness and mercy in my life and in the lives of all my family.
