Recently, I had a flat tyre in my car, the first in the eight years I have owned it.  On receiving the new tyre from the repairer, I put it back on the car but couldn’t get the little hub cap to go back on, no matter how I twisted, turned or thumped it. I gave up and left it off for a few days.  A few days later, I tried again, but this time I decided to do something my wife always tells me to do:  “Did you pray about it”.  She always prays about the little things that I never seem to want to bother God about.

So, here I was kneeling next to the back wheel, hub cap in hand, praying:  “Lord, can you help me to get this back on, please?”  And would you believe it, I couldn’t get it back on!  But then a thought came to my mind (is that You Lord?);  turn the hub cap clockwise just one notch.  It went straight on without any further twisting, turning or thumping.

Then I recalled an incident about 25 years ago, when I had to replace the clutch in my HT Holden.  I went to my father’s house as he had an inspection pit in his garage.  It was easy to drive the car over the pit to unbolt the drive shaft and gear box and clutch assembly.  I drove my father’s car to the spare parts place and bought a new clutch.  Back at the inspection pit Dad and I  just couldn’t get the clutch back on.  Then, in comparing it with the old clutch, we found it was slightly different.  So I took it back to the shop where I was told it was an EH clutch, not a HT clutch!  Aaargh!  Dad always told me that when they give you a spare part in those shops, you give it back to them straight away and ask for the correct part as it saves you having to go back to them later!

So, HT clutch in hand, I went back to the inspection pit and got the clutch assembly back on.  Now for the gear box.  Well, no amount of wiggling, shoving or jacking the motor up was going to get this gear box back over the clutch spline and onto the engine.  After all the frustration of the wrong part, patience was beginning to wear thin under the car.  Dad gave up and went inside the house, leaving me with a car in several pieces.  I simply said:  “Lord, I need Your help here.  I need to get this car back together.”  The back door banged open and Dad said, “Why don’t we jack up the engine another few millimetres and see what happens?”  Have you guessed it yet?  Yep, the gearbox went straight back on!

That prayer showed me that God IS interested in the small things in your life.  Don’t forget to include Him in your daily life.  That’s what He wants.

Luke 12:6-7  Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?  But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.
