I was sitting in the back of Ron Graham’s van, part way through a 12 hour return journey to Shellharbour from an exhausting maintenance visit to the church in Ballarat. Brad Graham had just finished his turn at driving and it was Ron’s turn and I noticed that he looked very tired too. While we were keeping an eye on each other to ensure we had an alert driver, it was my turn to try to have a nap in the back so that I would be refreshed for my next driving shift. But I find I am not a good passenger at times. I like to be in control...in the driver’s seat. I was watching Ron’s eyes in the rear view mirror looking for signs of fatigue. Then it struck me. I couldn’t control his driving. I had to relax, trust him and go to sleep. God spoke to me and I wrote this in my diary: One of the reasons that the Lord doesn’t move in our lives is because we take control ourselves. If we “launch out into the deep”, if we surrender to the current of the Spirit of God and let Him take control, our live will be infinitely richer. We will find greater fulfilment. We will reach our true potential....if. If we remain in control, we may still be blessed but it will be a meagre blessing in comparison to the richness of the blessings of God that he has prepared for those that love Him, that trust Him, that surrender their control to Him....if.
Some Scriptures to ponder:
Psa 84:11-12 KJV For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. [12] O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee. Eze 47:3-5 KJV And when the man that had the line in his hand went forth eastward, he measured a thousand cubits, and he brought me through the waters; the waters were to the ankles. [4] Again he measured a thousand, and brought me through the waters; the waters were to the knees. Again he measured a thousand, and brought me through; the waters were to the loins. [5] Afterward he measured a thousand; and it was a river that I could not pass over: for the waters were risen, waters to swim in, a river that could not be passed over. Luk 5:4-5 KJV Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. [5] And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. Eph 3:20-21 KJV Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, [21] Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen. |
