I have long enjoyed crossword puzzles.  

I came from a family of crossword puzzlers.  My mother does them and my grandmother continued to do both ordinary and cryptic crossword puzzles into her late nineties.  My wife, Robyn, and I enjoy doing crossword puzzles together as we often get words that the other doesn’t get.  It’s good teamwork.  We even discovered that we could do cryptic crosswords together.

A couple of years ago I discovered the number puzzle, Sudoku.

I think most people would love to own a shiny new car.  That new car smell when you open the door, no scratches or dents, no kilometres on the clock.

I was driving home from a prayer meeting last night, when I saw someone I know who has been through much suffering lately.  My heart went out to that person and I felt deep compassion.  It made me think a bit about what compassion might actually be.

There are some people who have talents to undertake a particular task.  I’ve seen many talented people who are talented in one area such as car repairs, music, or cooking.  I’ve even come across people who seem to be talented at everything.  But there are some people who have talent for nothing, or at least nothing worthwhile.

John 12:6 not only tells us that Judas “had the bag” (of money) but that he was a thief.  The Bible doesn’t tell us specifically that Jesus knew that Judas was a thief.  But there are enough occasions in Scripture that show that Jesus knew people’s thoughts for us to assume that he knew Judas was a thief when he appointed him as his treasurer.
